Problem solved, I think. The camshaft was not off center as I thought, but the old seal was deformed to make it look that way.I pulled the old seal (I used the idea of drilling into the seal and screwing in a couple of machine screws as grabbers, worked nicely) and installed a new one. No leak as of yet and the truck runs well. Its still a mystery as to why the original seal was deformed, it was brand new and I had yet to run the truck. I'm guessing something happened to it after I got the heads back from the shop but before I put them in. Invading Jeep gremlins no doubt.

Anyway thanks for all of the help. With this beast I'm sure I'll be back for more.

Happy new year all, now back to the truck.
I thought things were good, but then it started spewing oil and I have traced it to the driver's side head. The circular cap on the back of the driver's side head (in line with the camshaft) is gone. Could it have been blown out by excessive pressure? Could this be due to a plugged PCV valve? Is there a diagnostic for this or should I just swap it out?

I doubt the cam plug can be blown out?? It is clamped in place by the bearing cap, the dip stick would have blown first. If your crankcase pressure was that high I think you would have noticed some running problems as well. Why do you assume the cap was blown out or you have pcv problems? Can you find the plug or is it missing?

This is a plug on the outside of the head, on the back side.
It either was not put in by the guys who did the valve job or it got blown out. I am assuming it was blown out because I did not notice the leak before.

On the other hand, the engine is running beautifully, so I'm not sure what to think.

That should be the cam plug. It is a metal plug with rubber coating. It is held in place by the bearing cap that holds down the rocker shaft. I think if it was not installed on
re-assembly there would have been huge oil leak right away. I guess if it was installed on an angle or not in all the way it could have fallen out, but it would be hard to install it incorrectly. You will need to remove the valve cover, rocker shaft to replace it. I would talk to the guys who did the work and claim it under warranty. Very strange.

It should have been trapped in the bore by a ridge on the cam bore and a matching dent around the periphery of the cap/cup. I think you can replace it without completely removing the rocker shaft/cam sprocket. I'd loosen all the caps, more toward the rear. If you need a cup I think I've got a couple.

OK, I think I understand now. When I had the valve job done I removed the rockers and replaced them after I put the heads back into the truck, if I remember correctly. I probably knocked the plug out of place without knowing it before I tightened down the caps. I will try and replace it by loosening up the caps as suggested (I still have the old plugs, but thanks for the offer.)
