Need to figure out, what muffler works/sounds the best for the 22r? Looking definatly for performance first, but nothing that sounds like a$$...catch my drift? Most of the time I would not hesitate for flowmaster, but that was for a stroker v8...what about a 4cyl? Peace!

LC header, no cat, and stock replacement. Sounds great and is a little loud when you stomp on it. I told the muffler guy if he couldn't make it sound like a V8, make it quiet and it sounds good.

Hope you will come to realize that running a cat is part of your personal responsibility for mitigating pollution from burning fossil fuel. All of our trucks burn gas, all contribute to bad air locally and global warming generally. We ought to at least meet the letter of the law when it comes to emissions. You can probably get away without runnning a cat, especially if you live in a rural area. And many here probably don't care that you do. But you may want to consider that not everyone thinks running without a cat is "cool". Besides that it is illegal.

Not to mention it is actually robbing you of a bit of torque and gaining little if anything. Also that nasty black crap that comes out the end of the exhaust pipe and onto your truck as well as into the air.

I've heard the Delta 50 is nice, but I'm happy with my el cheapo.

I have the Jardine cat-back setup on my 4Runner. It's a decent muffler with a little bit of a burble to it but nothing loud or obnoxious. And it stays pretty quiet when you accelerate but it does have a performance tone to it. I think any of the turbo style mufflers should work fine. I would recommend going with a full 2-1/4" system though and not just the muffler.

Hey there are offroad only vehicles that are cat exempt. A well tuned motor won't spew black sut out of the exhaust. I am NOT telling anyone to remove the cat this is illegal and can result in a hefty fine. My opinion on cats are that they are there to mask a poorly tuned vehicle that most of the general public drives. I have read several boards where people actually pass inspection just fine on the sniffer only test with no cat. Again this is just an opnion and I'm sure some of you will disagree. Bottom line is removing your cat is ILLEGAL.

Just buy an exhaust that you like (with a highflow cat(magnaflow))! If it sounds awful add a 24" resonator, that will get rid of most "rattle" sounds, and maybe add more, but I've had really good luck out of intake, headers, 2.5" exhaust, mangaflow highflow cat, a 24" resonator, and the muffler (imho).

The Raptor turbo muffler from Kragen's sounds pretty good for its price($24). I run one on my 3.0 and it has a nice mellow yet throaty sound when on the gas, I haven't put one on my '91 so I am not sure what it sounds like on a 22re. The muffler isn't made from the thickest guage steel and wont last as long as a high $$$ muffler, but then again they are cheap enough you can replace them whenever it is needed.
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else. '90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction. '91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed
