Getting the Wheeling Fever
If i were to get a shift kit for my 93 chevy k1500 4x4. would i be able to keep it from switching gears in the first gear position..or does first gear always shift out no matter what i do? If there is a shift kit that keeps it in a single gear (1st) who offers it?

What does it only have drive and overdrive positions a lot of vehicles have a first and second gear position to you'll have to check but i think all aftermarket shifters are like that try B7M and Hurst <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

yes it had OD 1 & 2 but for some reason when i burn out it will start burning out then hit a second gear while i am in the 1st gear position...so its in 1st gear position but, it shifts out on it own into another gear while remaining in that position....Its my buddies truck he was just talking about it trying to get it all figured out

Have you checked ypur speed sensor it is probably reading too fast of a speed when in reality you aren't even moving and it forces it into 2nd so you don't break anything buut i am not an expert in doing burnouts in an automatic too expensive to replace manual is better the worst is replacing a gear or clutch

ok well doing stand still burny's is rather boring anyway but what ever gets your jollys off.

yes there are ways to change the shift ponts of an automatic tranny. it also depends on the tranny. if it is a 350 or 400 than you will be looking for a stage 2 kit. i had one in my 91 suburban and that thing shifted so hard i s-bent my rear leaf packs and stretched a u-bolt almost 2 inches. than again i also had 4.71's, posi, and 35's.

now what was awsome about that kit is that it would stay in the gear i selected until it hit a certain rpm and than it would shift up to protect the motor from floating the valves to much. that shift point on mine was set to shift about 100 rpm before redline.

so to answer you question yes there are shift kits out there, but atleast be somewhat intellegent and have a safety for yourself, it will save the $500-$800 tranny rebuild bill.

But that is not saying something might be worng and the tranny is shifting way to early anyway. its really hard to tell from just a forum post so....

BTW- the tranny in the burban was a th400, one of the strongest tranny's i have ever seen for an automatic.
