Getting the Wheeling Fever
Buy a new carburetor. Unless you've rebuilt carburetors before and are good at it, justt pony up the $400.00.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hmmm, maybe that is the problem with my carb...
we had it rebuilt once, not sure if the guy even touched it or not, it got worse than before we took it to get rebuilt...
Now I have a question is the 2.3L WEBER CARBURETOR from Independent4x any good, or is it poor quality?? kinda expensive
Matt

From what I've heard, Weber is one of the better quality ones and well worth the money.

it looks like the best way is to buy a new carb no problem. BTW do they make a carb to tbi conversion for my 86 trooper?

The weber carb is a great upgrade. Along with a bigger exhaust pipe, it'll really wake up the 2.3. I'm sure the valve job I had to do helped but it's like a new truck..

The Weber would be a great upgrade. I put one on a '73 VW bus with a 1700cc engine. I replaced the two single barrel carbs with one two barrel progressive. The difference was amazing. The engine ran so much better, and much stronger.

The only problem was that the state of California, in it's great wisdom, would not pass the bus on smog. The Weber was not original equipment. So, every senond year I pulled the Weber off and slapped the two Solex carbs back on, and coaxed it through the smog test. As soon as it passed the Weber went back on. The bus, btw, is no longer in California.

I rebuilt the Hitachi carburetor on my 2.3 a while back. The following was the best link I found at the time on re-building it.

http://dimequarterly.tierranet.com/articles/tech_carb_tuning_guide.html

The rebuild wasn't quick, but I did get through it. Definitely have alternate transportation if you go this route (I think that is a good idea any time you work on your own cars - if possible).

I know this is a bit late, but did you check your choke or linkage? Why do you think only one side is working?
