I don't remember having to discharge the a/c. I think I got it loose (disconnect the battery - before removing the 10mm nut on the fat wire) and snaked it out the back and around the a/c. Had to move some wires and vac lines. At worst, you can unbolt the compressor and lay it aside and remove the a/c bracket, but I don't remember having to. Pulling the radiator should also give room.
