Has anyone ever tried that product seafoam? I see it plenty of times on streetfire.net and I wanted to know if it really worked, or does it just "mess" up the car?

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I used seafoam in my truck (3.0). Through the brake booster vacuum line. I did it because it was pinging a little on heavy uphill acceleration. It helped alot... now it doesn't ping nearly as much as it did before. I'm sure it will be perfect on the next application though. Man did it smoke on startup after waiting the fifteen minutes. Neighbours thought I blew a gasket <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> Anyway, it worked for my truck and depending on your problem it may work too.

I swear by the stuff. I use it in fuel injected vehicles sometimes, and it seems to clean it out pretty well. Mainly i've used it in carbs though(mostly motorcycles), the stuff is incredible, it'll clear out a sticking float in a few miles. Kinda gettin spendy, but worth it to me.

Roll Me Over
it's a harsh alcohol type product. yes it works, but no miracles. I've recently been turned onto using WATER as a engine de-carboner. Yes, water. Go figure. free, evironmentally friendly and available at home. maybe thats why nobody markets it. I ran 8oz through my 85 supra which was carboned up very bad (had the intake manifold off etc) and it runs SO much better now. i'm going to do another dose later this week.

The way it works. Well, think of a motor that has a HG going and a cylinder is using water. when you take that motor apart that cylinder is usually squeaky clean compare to the rest that are carboned up. You want to be careful, as with anything, when using water as a decarboner b/c you can hydrolock the motor. You want to warm the motor up to operating temps, make sure it's nice and hot. you can suck the water through a Vaccuum tube, or better yet use a spray bottle into the intake tract (if you have a MAF your SOL, or get creative). Spray the water into the engine's intake while lightly reving it. don't over do it, but do that for a few minutes. You'll start to get steam out of the tail pipe, and most likely blk dirty steam. do it until the steam/water is clean. I'm still new to this water trick, but i'm liking it b/c a cup worked so well and i have read some about it on the net. and some old timers at work told me about it. No more Sea foam for me. I'm using water. Steam really works I guess.

Need a Spot
I would throw in this disclaimer concerning the water - Use caution with the water (amount misted in), esp in high compression engines. The Sports Car Club of America used to allow water injection in some classes (water does not compress, thus a major compression bumper). They outlawed it b/c it grew tiresome stopping races to pick up engine pieces as racers do tend to get carried away.

I have used seafoam in my truck a few times, worked GREAT the first time I used it, made my truck idle so much smoother. My instructor at school is an old time racer and was telling us about the water trick also. I havent used it myself but it sounds interesting.
