Body Damage is Cool
Also I'm not sure what it is but often I'll have issues with the site's cookies getting screwed up (with IE7 and FF2.0) and i'll end up with this

[Linked Image]

it's almost like there's a timeout on the cookie or something and then when i try to log it's recognized but not accepted because of timestamps maybe.
I'm not sure why, really. It is pretty screwy.

I noticed that you guys are using UBB.Threads v6.4.4
There is a newer version if I recall that's at least v7.0

I'd also recommend using phpBB2.0 instead. For one... it's free where UBB.Threads is not. For another... it's open source and open source just rules

I'm not sure how hard it would be to port over but I'm sure that'd be a project.

Just some friendly suggestions/ideas to put out there

I, personally, love the arrangement of 'wire... I think the forums are well segregated and well managed. Kudos to all.

But the forum software needs to be tossed out the window of a moving truck... I think it might be time to investigate an upgrade to vbulletin or something along those lines. Just an opinion.

I'd LOVE to offer help, but I have to be honest and say that with my work/travel schedule, I don't' have much time these days. But please let me know what is needed and I'll certainly try to help in any way I can.

I agree. Software needs to go buh-bye. I'd help with whatever I can, even though I've never messed with forum software.

One thing I think could be better and I could do it (if the mods want) is organizing the Toyota tech section to make it easier to find what you want.

Just a sticky thread that breaks things down into year ranges and type.

example:

84-95 Trucks and Runners

Engine

2.4 > related threads
3.0 > related threads

Suspension

etc.

(aka suprathepeg, aka Sean)
89 v6 SWB truck "BLACK BEAUTY" EB valves, P&P head 30 over.

Yea....an "FAQ" like they have over at pirate4x4, with links to threads and everything.

I know we have an FAQ on 4x4wire.com's Toyota section, but a thread with links to other threads would be excellent.

I'll be the decenter on this one. I've seen many a forum try to narrow down the discussion forums to specific items and it always fails. Look at YotaTech; they have a forum for 84-85 4Runner/pickups and another for 86+. Well, there is basically zero difference between the two generations, so why split it? It just causes cross-posting and prevents sharing of good information. We went through this on my club's forum as well; same results... It's just too much to manage.

Just my thoughts.

Yea thats true Brian, I was only trying to come up with an example but the broader the better. Like I said I can set this up if people want. Its not like I don't already spend too much time here.

I too love open source (I happen to work for a small open source s/w company), but there is not way in the world I would ever use phpBB. That software is a sieve, it is an open invitation to hack your server.

BTW check the clock on your PC, we see that login/cookie issue at times when the PC clock is off.

If you're willing to help, post here or email me. I've had a few folks PM me; I'll create a mailing list for this.

We do have new forum s/w which we need help with.
