It also can result in DIYs learning and getting a good handle on how their rig works.

Here is the best advice...can you afford to have it towed into a shop in pieces if you get stuck? Can you afford a new t case if you mess up getting that little oil pump tube in correctly, it will toast it with no warning in 2-5 miles.

It is all in what you are willing to screw up in the learning process. If you need to drive it monday am, and you blew it, you are stewed.
