I am currently swapping a 22re into an 85 pu that has a 22r.
The enging is from an 89 p/u
I I gonna have problems with that computer?
I dont see why I would, but wasnt sure if there was any inputs that the comp would need to be reading that wouldnt be there. I have noticed that the 85 in my 4runner computer from my other truck is different from the 89 computer.
Again I dont see why. if the comp and engine are from the same truck, I just want to be sure.

Thanx again
Happy holidays and God Bless.
-Chris

If you have the wiring harness from the 89, you're in business. If not, you're going to have problems.

Body Damage is Cool
Just a bit more info, Toyota made some changes to the EFI in mid-88, so your 89 donor uses the newer injectors, AFM, and ECU. The pre-88.5 EFI uses low impedance peak and hold injectrors, while the post-88.5 used high impedance saturated injectors. Like Darin said, as long as all of the EFI components come from the same "era" you will be fine...but don't mix and match early injectors with a late ECU, or vice versa, or you might damage the injector driver circuit of the ECU.

Yea.
I have a junked truck so everything is coming from the junker. comp, harness, injectors and all.
Appreciate the tips.
Happy thanksgiving

Note, I've never done an EFI swap into an early pickup. I went another route for EFI.
The toyota harness isn't known for being simple or easy to work on. There's a vendor on pirate that sells a "painless" harness - basically they cut out all of the extra stuff from a factory harness, but the price is high - around $450.

You are going to need decent wiring diagrams.
I'd probably try to put the late model motor in complete with the wiring harness. It's going to have a different distributor, a different ignitor, a diagnostic port, heated 02, EFI relays and a bunch of fun stuff. Figure out what connections are left over and what they do - you really only need to power the EFI system up appropriately, connections to sensors, TPS, 02, ignition, power the fuel pump, and be able to hit the starter to make it run.

If you need help with ECU functions, send me a PM - I can probably help you. I probably can't tell you much about the harness, but the ECU I know pretty well.

Side note:
Toyota did choose low and high impedance injectors across the years. You can't swap injectors, but from the ECU perspective - they're both high impedance setups - the early 22REs have a resistor box in line with the injectors.
