==================================

I'm wondering if us other poor suckers need to check the function of our glow-plugs?

I hear some clicking, the lights go dim, more clicking, lights bright, I turn the key and it splutters to life... How to check the function of individual glow plugs? Solenoids? Anyone...? Anyone...?
==================================

Loosen (repeat only loosen) each of the 3mm nuts at the top of the glow plug. For the main wire coming from the relay to Glow plug #3 carefully loosen the nut and save in a safe place.. Wiggle bus bar out and check continuity of each plug to block.. it must be below 1 ohm at the lowest ohm meter setting (e.g 200 ohm setting). Replace any plugs that show more than 1 ohm. While the buss bar is off check it for corrosion and clean where necessary. Reconnect the busbar, wiggling it under the 3mm nuts and reconnect the power , again inspecting the cable for good connections (e.g no white or brown corrosion etc etc) .. Then turn key and measure voltage at the glow plugs.. You should se 6.0 to 6.3 V for 5 to 7 seconds.. If you have that then you have full glow plug action..
