I agree on the seperate glow plug thread ...
Simple for the heat part P=ExI (Power = Volts times Current)
So in theory a 12V is "more gentle" on the system WRT current draw to get the same effect (power)...
It may be of benifit to retrofit to 12V for our winters ??

It may be of benifit to retrofit to 12V for our winters ?? Not sure I follow. What do you mean by "retrofit?". The system currently (pun intended) dumps a full 12v to the plugs for the initial glow, then drops down to 6v for the "afterglow" while the truck is running. And therin lies my conundrum. What's the diff having 6v plugs vs 12v plugs in the system? The plugs really don't care how much voltage they get. They just turn whatever they have into heat. I'm sure there is a reason and I'd like to know what it is.

From Off to on there is about 7 seconds of 6.5 V and then there is 4 or 5 cycles of the 6.5 V once the motor is going... Hummm

My apologies. I have just assumed from what I read that it was 12 and then 6. I will have to take a meter out this weekend and check.

I ended up buying some NGK plugs that work but are 11v not 6.2v.
Did you bypass the ballast resistor then to get the full 11V to the new plugs? Nope. I just took out the greentops and put in the NGK's. I thought about doing that but I didn't feel too comfortable doubling the voltage to the plugs for an extended period. In theory it should be fine but.... Anyway, I'm still hunting for the Greentops. The NGK plugs were $7.00 each plus $10.00 shipping from the states. So for less than the price of one Greentop from Mits I have 4 NGK's that work. Albeit not stellar, but functional. Okay - so what was the part number on the NGK? I like the idea of locally sourced parts. Are they working well? Where did you get them for $7 each?
