i measured both housings and they are different in width but the perches are the same in distance.....shouldn't be much of a problem. We will disect the 86 rear end and maybe change out thirds if needed...but then agian the driverside tire was making an oval movement which might have something to to with the shaft...We'll find out when we start diggin...
With the narrower housing, the tires will rub the frame when it is flexed out. Sounds to me as if an axle broke along with the third member.

Lucky you made it home with out the bearing coming apart and the axle coming out. Power Tank Steve blew an axle in Old Sluice on the Con and made it about fifty feet before the bearing came apart. I blew a rear on 4-Dice at winch hill one and made it all the way out. It depends on where it breaks, SteveÆs broke at the bearing, and mine broke at the splines.
