I was looking at LC's header as well as Doug Thorleys. But then read on Thorley's main page "Stick Only, Does not fit 5speed with hydraulic clutch." Booo. That was for part # THY-555Y and it doesn't seem they offer one For the 5speed manual w/ Hydraulic clutch.
Has anyone bought one of the Doug Thorley headers for their 5spd 22RE and did you have to do major fabrications to get it to fit?

Not sure on the Thorley header, but the clutch slave cylinder is on the opposite side of the engine from the exhaust. My LC header fit on my 5-speed and as far as I know, all 22R/RE/RETs w/ manual trans. have hydraulic clutches, at least all I have seen. Might contact them and see what the deal is.

Just sent em an E-mail. Hopefully they respond fairly quick, guess ill take a look under the hood of mine to see where the hyrdaulic clutch slave is. And how it could render the header "Un-useable" for some reason. I've never heard of That being a problem, Ever, for any type of parts.

I don't have a ton of experiance with the 22re but it seems the popular belief is that headers are a waste on that engine.

Why would you think that's the case on the 22RE and not the 22r?

I've heard the opposite; headers are one of the best mods for that motor. But hey, i don't have a ton of experience with the 22re either

Just my opinion on headers are a good idea on any engine, unless it comes from the factory with them.

Body Damage is Cool
A header on my sleepy little 22RE really woke it up. Flowmaster 40 muffler, LC Engineering header, 2 1/4" pipe. My sister has a 22R in her 83 truck and the same setup. Woke it up too. Still no dragters. Crawl good and pull through the rpm range well. There are hills that I used to downshift for that I can get over in 5th now. Any difference on the plus side with these motors is good

well either which way, Opinions aside, Dyno numbers don't lie. After talking to the Thorley guys for a bit, they seem like they've done their math on constructing this header to flow smoother then OEM and produce more lowend torque/hp (Idle-4500).
And, the response I got in the E-mail was also re-assuring to anyone who is thinking of buying the model I listed.
"Hey Brandon,
That is actually a catalog error made two years ago. We have recently reconfirmed this to fit the 5 speed manual trans.
That model will work just great for you!
Thanks!
