I have Kumho Venture King MT's (31-10.50x15) on stock alloy rims on my 89 4dr, and they never rubbed no matter how much I flexed it, and I weighed in at 5275lbs with a full tank and a big load of stuff on the landfill scales, and I wheel it the same way, plus some wheeling only stuff that's probably another hundred or so. I have no lift and no torsion bar crank, and I've got my caster set as close to zero as I could get it.

The bumber end caps are the very back trailing edge (is back trailing edge redundant?) sharp edged rubber stuff on the end of the front bumber, the part that reaches to the edge and a little of the wheelwell, outside the body. I chained my bumper ends to a tree and backed up the truck in 4wdlo to straighten up the classis Monty shoved back bumper ends syndrome. Combined with whanging the two ripples in the bumper steel channel just outboard of the center bumper guards with a 4lb deadblow hammer, I got my whole bumper ends back parallel with the body where they are supposed to be. I'm not sure if that's why it never rubbed, because I did it before I bought the tires. It came with whoozat thirtyonetenfiftyfifteen A/T's about 70% worn and round shouldered, and the Kumhos were noticeably wider and edge knobbier and square-er, in a round kind of way....

I purposely went and found 15x7 rims for my set of 31x10.5 tires just to get a more beefier look. 15x7 rims are $15-20 a piece at the yards or $40 each new at the autoparts stores around here. If you look at the fitment diagram, draw line to signify the fender compared to the factory tire/rim and see how much sticks out on the 31's. Beefy!!!

Hey.. if you can't off-road all the time, then you can at least look intimidating on the streets!

Here are some photos of stuffed 31s, 32s, and 33s on my Raider.

I have not used the factory rims with more then 235's, but have found that 31's probably wouldn't rub. With my aftermarket wheels, the 31's made no contact anywhere with all knids of flexy conditions. The 32's self-clearanced the front bumper ends, but did not rub anywhere else. The 33's do not rub in the rear and only mildly in the front. I'm planning on the 2" body lift though, so I am not worried about the current contact.

IIRC some dealers may have even offered 31's stock!

Cranking torsion bars and adding add-a-leafs helps. Can't help you with front lift but I am currentlly selling the stuff you need for the rear lift. pm me if you are interested. Don't cut anything most of us have gotten 33" tires in there with minor lifting modifications.

My brother installed the 31's on the Montero. He said the tires dont rub. I'll take a picture in couple of weeks and post it up.

Thanks for all your help.
