LC was selling a supercharger (Camden) for the 22RE for a while. My understanding is that it had issues due to the blow through nature.. The Camden was designed to draw through and the fuel cooled the rotors. I don't know if they're still selling it, but I think it ran around $2700.
Torque gain was impressive, like 60%. Peak HP gain wasn't impressive, like 35hp. (That's for the "normal" output version, <5psi) The Camden isn't a very efficient blower, but it does produce boost almost off idle.
I understand that Jackson Racing may be developing one also.. I haven't confirmed that yet. I'd check with them.
Rick at Fullboogie.net has a turbo 1993 pickup on 100% stock internals. He dyno'd over 170hp on pump gas. I think you can do a turbo for a lot less, even considering the requirement for EFI control (Megasquirt, SDS, FAST, etc). Ping me if you're interested, I think I can point you in the right direction.
I've owned the Camden SC, btw, both normal and high output versions.

I really wanna see someone retrofit a toyota or mercedes sc onto once of these efi truck engines. Break the ground for me so I can learn from your mistakes, lol.

I think Mercedes uses an Eaton blower, at least on their SLKs. A blower smaller than the M62 is really too small for the 22R series and would only be good for a few PSI of boost.
I really like the Eaton series - they're efficient and reasonably inexpensive as they're so common.

In my opinion, you could put a chevy 350/turbo 350 combination for less money, more power, and more reliability. Ive never seen anyone go back from a V8 swap. Ive seen lots of people, me included, that put thousands into a 22R hybred step child motor only to not be satisfied with it and go V8.

well i know that personally i am some body who went from a small block back to the 22re, and i only have stiffer valve springs and a stage 3 cam with kn drop in filter and 2.5 exhaust with a flowmaster. i mean i am only running 36 swampers right now and will be going 38.5 here soon, but i was turning 42' with that small block and yes i was practically unstopable, till the damn plug wires got on the exhaust and i turned the motor and tranny in to omelets. but hey i beat a stroked 450r on the flats by two truck lengths, hell yeah now that was moving fast, kinda skerd me actually.
if you gear the toyota drive train with a doubler and lower diff gears and dont just plant the pedal to the floor and use some skill the 22re will out run a 350, especially on fuel.
that does not mean speed by any means but you can get farther on the technical stuff with the 4-banger, if you are hitting nothin but mud bogs and racing on the dunes or logging roads than yeah a 350 i suppose would be better. that just means i would look at the type of wheelin you are going to be doing mostly and how much you like to fix your truck, cause horse power aint cheap.
