Eyeballing straight up will get you near where you'll need to be, it will run if off just a few degrees. You'll still have some adjustment for getting it dead on.

OK.. that makes no sense, Irish... The ECU is the only thing left.
Have you gone through the FSM diagnostic procedure for troubleshooting spark?

ummm my post ??? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> or the problem? lol neither seems to be making any sense today, sorry.

yeah, welll i didnt do the next to last "check IGT signal from ecm" i'm really not sure how,and i dont have the page it refers to

and i didnt check the resistince of the cable between the coil and distributor.........i cant get spark at the coil sooo thats not it ....or am i wrong????

other than that yeah
1 checked wires and fuses.Power to the module and coil.Wiring has no visible cuts, etc that i can see.All fuses look good

2 Redid the two ignition grounds(new bolts, cleaned things up,smeared dielectric grease around).

3 tested the coil...wound up replacing it

4. replaced the module ,couldnt test it and it SEEMED the logical problem......

5.installed junkyard distributor....put on new rotor....

Soo yes sir i have, except for the IGT thingi

What motor, and how did it come to be non-running?

I just went through a no spark problem on a 22RE that turned out to be a badly warped head with no compression. And cylinders full of water. I tried a new coil, ignitor, pickup coil, etc. and when I did the head gasket it fired right up on all the old stuff I thought was bad.

Electrical side isn't always to blame for no spark. Might throw a compression tester on there.

OK.. just confirming that you've walked through the procedure of the FSM - not just stuff that people have recommended.

The FSM that's posted does have those pages.. A few notes:
Info on trouble codes for the V6:
http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-buchanan/93fsm/engine/85diagnosi.pdf

Troublehshooting the IGT is in this section, but it requires the truck to be at idle.. So I really don't see how it's useful..
http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-buchanan/93fsm/engine/86troubles.pdf

Here's how the system works:
http://lakebox.dnsalias.com/photos/1988%204runner/megasquirt/toyotaVAST.jpg

I'd want to know if I get a 5v square wave out the IGT pin (leave the harness connected to the ECU) when cranking. This will most likely show as a 3-4v indication in a voltmeter.. or maybe a swinging indication of voltage on an analog voltmeter like you're using. Test IGT between the pin and ground.
No IGT = No spark.

No IGT could be caused by a bunch of things:
1) Bad pickup on the distributor.
2) Bad Ignitor.
3) Bad wiring between the distributor and the ECM.

You should also check the input on NE at the ECU, again with the ECU plugged into the harness, based on my VAST diagram. It's 12v square wave for the 22RE.. I *think* it's the same for the V6.
