I just put a volt meter on the battery with it running and I am getting 14 volts and the battery was deads. So the charging system as a whole seems to be working fine at the moment. I am going to run to the parts house and have them test the battery. What do you think as far as getting 14 volts at the battery while running? Is that a good sign that the alt is fine? It will be about a hour or so before I get back and check this thread. Thanks for youre help

I would unhook your battery for a while to reset the cpu And I would clean the posts and cables before you hook it back up. I had a problem like that once on my 99 trooper And that was my fix. But maybe not yours??

Ok well i got a new battery installed it after haveing the old 1 out for a couple hours to reset the computer. So far so good. The first time I started it though it I was having a problem with it increasing RPM'S. If I just touched the gas to rev it up a touch it would keep going up to around 3000 rpm amd stay there for about 4-5 seconds then start to come down. The other thing was I could not keep the rpm needle at a steady rpm with my foot, it ould jump all around. I would try to keep the needle on say 2000 rpm by pressing the gas peddle but I could not do it. It would just go up and down. I don't mean that I wanted it to stay excactly on the button but just pretty close and I could not get it any where even close. Then after driving it for awhile I shut it off started it back up and everything was fine. If I hit the gas the rpm gauge would go up to about 2000 rpm and come right back down. I could get it to hold right at 2000 rpm with the foot pedal no problem. Weird. What would affect the way the throttle acted as far as getting it to stay at a steady rpm if i wanted it to?

The intake manifold gasket is still a possible problem that would create the problems you are describing.
Get out some carb cleaner and hose down he base of the manifold with the engine running. If the RPMs jump up, you found your leak.
Good Luck, Michael
