The TPS will not affect idle at all, unless it reads that the throttle is not at idle. Mine was telling the ecu that I was at idle at 1/4 throttle, and at full throttle, it must have told the ECu I was at 1/4 throttle. The spring inside the TPS was worn out so when I let off the gas it stuck at what would have been 1/4 throttle, but it was reading idle.
If you sprayed carb or throttle body cleanout on the Throttle body, your TPS is probably taking some damage from the cleaner.
I would at least test the TPS, it is easy to do. You cant even set the timing if it is bad.

Is it a manual or auto? IF its auto, check the linkage under the throttle cable.
