So, since my old tail lights got smashed, I went on a hunt for clear tail lights and (finally) found a pair. The only problem i'm having now is, Brightness of colored bulbs.
After looking around some websites, found www.superbrightleds.com and looked at the 24led wide range (130*) red lights since they'll utilize the whole casing allocated for the brake light bulb. Do any of you currently run LED tail lights or turn signals?
Wasn't impressed with APC's lame LED's at advanced auto...lol

You're going to have to switch to electronic flashers for your hazards and turn signals, as the LEDs don't draw enough power to trip the thermal units. The larger LED bulbs are decent, take the new Cadillac taillights for example. As you said, the APC bulbs are a joke, but if you're using the entire surface area of the light you should be in excellent shape. Don't forget to post pictures <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I eye balled the Caddy LED's. Unfortunatley they are Too massive to fit =(. This is the time I wish I had paid attention in tech class in high school when we did circuitry. They don't really look hard to construct at all.
And yea, I was browsing for the larger ones (I remember seeing on Horsepower TV that Some one produced massive bunches of LED's that dropped into OEM tail lamps) and it looked magnificent. Even in sunlight!
Ill post pics of how these ones work out for me, esp w/ the clear tail lamps.

Look at the new Four Wheeler magazine. They just did a story. There is a bulb called Spiderlight or something like it that you would be interested in. They also mentioned just hooking up trailer lights in the bed so they draw more power for the LEDs to work properly.

I run the SuperBright LED tail lights, they seem to work fine. I did switch back to regular turn signal bulbs as I have some wierd electrical issue between the turn signals and something in back, that the LED turn signals made worse. I made up a resistor pack that plugged into the trailer light connector to load down the LED turn signals for the stock flasher. I also tried the resistor mod on the stock flasher, both worked fine.

Check a truck (18 wheeler) parts house. They sell flasher relays that are adjustable. A flasher is an L C tank circuit, the truck relays have an adjustable pot (resistor) acros the coil to load and unload it it control the flash speed and loads trucks see since very few 2 trucks have the same light configs. I have in the past had to add parallel flasher circuits to trucks that use excessive amounts of lights, truckers love lights switches and guages. But MANY truck fleets have switched to LED lights since they are much more reliable, so a truck parts house may even have good sources of LED OEM fixtures, all truck LED lights have load resitance built into the fixtures to simulate an OEM fillament so you could hack that cuircuit as well.

ive got some wicked bright round leds from harbor freight, and they work fine, no fiddling with the flasher, or any thing. i just added a higher watt bulb to the marker light (which is my signal light) and left the signal light in the system, inside the engine bay.

you can add resistors if they dont draw enough i know on my bike the blinkers blink really really fast and a resistor solved it, only down fall is they get hot

Well, i'll have to see how this pair works for now (only got the 24led Wide range reds ATM) 4Crawler: what config are you using. The 30led setup or the 3watt Luxeon? I went with the 24 only because it's 1/3 the price of the luxeon, But, have heard/seen the Luxeon is Crazy bright.
I mainly chose the Wide range 24led since it has the 6 devoted LED's that will hit the reflector and (I hope) Dissapate the light through all of the plastic reflectors.
Yea I had been reading that in Most cases you have to add a resistor of some sort for Signals/Flashers of anykind since it doesnt trip the sensor. If I like the LED tail light bulb, I wanna see how bright the Luxeon would be for Bright White backup lights <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
