I joined this awesome website when I bought my 87 Raider (for $500) about a month or so ago. I have learned many great things with repair and whatnot. I have slowly been fixing it up by replacing the wheel wells and other rust/rot spots. I painted the truck with a roller...yes, a roller. I thinned out a can of Tremclad and painted it black. I wetsanded in between coats and it came it pretty good. Just wanted to show you my truck with its new to me 31's and paint job. Just waiting for the 2" lift kit and then I will get out the welder and make the bumpers and side sliders.

Looks great man; thanks for sharing the pics. Good job with the paint too. Do you know how much time total you had in the "roller job"?

I have to say that I really like your no frills, no shine, good-looking and totally utilitarian truck.

Nice job! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I spent awhile prepping the truck, but when it came to painting it, it took less than 2 days.

Tremclad is thinned to aprox. 10:1 ratio

First day had the first coat rolled on. Finished first coat in 15mins. Allowed it to dry in 8hrs and then wet sanded with water and 150 grit. Allowed to dry. Rubbed clean. Rolled another coat. Allowed to set overnight.

Next day, in the afternoon, wetsanded with 400 grit, rinsed down again and applied final coat.

A week later, I "polished" with Mother's clay rubbing compound and achieved a smooth finish:
