I blew my TF999 transmission on the Sept long weekend. It was behind a 258 six in a 1984 CJ7. While I was troubleshooting it trying to find what was wrong I picked up a 1980 CJ5 with a 304 V8. I have now swapped the V8 into my CJ7 and had the TF999 rebuilt. Apparently the TF999 needs the kickdown hooked up because the faster you go the more the kickdown shaft rotates and it increases the pressure on the bands, don,t hook it up and you burnout the trans. Would anyone here know if it would be OK to turn the kickdown shaft so it is always on and running the full pressure. I know the downshifting feature when you tromp on the gas at highway speeds would be lost but that doesn,t matter to me.
