It's alive!!!!

Test start today at 12:30.

Starter cranked for about five seconds and it fired right off. The exhaust is still incomplete and it sounds wicked. Will have to fininsh assembling before it is drivable.

Drove it today. If 20' into the garage counts as driving.

- Today spent time cleaning up the wiring installation with protective wrap, etc.

- Installed radiator upper and lower hoses.

- Brake vacuum booster line. Removed the 3.0 stock booster line from the aft wall of the engine bay. Cut a small piece of it that fit just right from the port on the 3.4 intake to the brake system. I will use the space where the booster line was on the firewall to run the new wires so it looks nice.

- 3.4 oil dipstick hole in front of the engine. I think I have forgot to mention this hole. It is the one left by relocating the oil dipstick back near the engine mount. I ran a 10mm x 1.25 tap through this hole and installed a flanged head bolt with a thick bead of silicon to seal the hole. The flange just covers the hole and makes a nice looking final installation.

- Oil filter. Noticed that you can now reach through the left wheel well and remove the oil filter. that's nice.

- Fuel line. Fabricated a new line segment from the filter to the engine. Used 5/16 steel tubing and reused the fittings that were on the original line. This took three attempts before I had something I was happy with. Not that I am so picky, I just stink at tube bending. It looks real good now.

- Evap canister and switches. Fabricated brackets and installed the canister assembly on the left fender well near where it is normally located in a 1999 Tacoma. Used existing bolt holes in the fender bottom to attach at three locations. Used some 14 gauge steel strap that has holes predrilled in it about every 3/4". Made it real easy. Just had to bend it up.

Finished the swap up today. Welded up the exhaust and took it out on the road. I really am pleased with it so far. Power in all the right places and it comes in smooth. Feels like the engine is in control of the 4Runner instead of the other way around as the 3.0 felt. The low RPM torque is very nice. With the 4.56:1 gears and 31" tires first gear is not needed now in normal driving around town stop and go. No chance yet to check fuel milage.

Kutter, I am utterly impressed. I see you resolved your other problems with the MAF and the 02 sensor. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Now, I do have a question for you. I have been working on consolidating the 3.0 to 3.4 swap threads; may we add your information and use your pix?

This is one article that we'd like to perhaps use when we move stuff onto the new Wire; it's overdue, and a very popular project that we'd like to have available to people.

On pix permission, please inform Little Joe, so it's official.

Outstanding. I'm still marvelling. Sure pays to do the homework! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

I am preparing a completion post with more pictures and increased detail. It will be about a week before it is ready.

You may use what information you would like. How should I contact Little Joe?

Now have nearly 400 miles on the 3.4 in the runner and love it. Finally got through the first tank of gas. I drove like a maniac and still got 19 MPG. That is about the same as the very best I have ever had with the 3.0 and it happend only one time. Usually the 3.0 will do 15-16. I am curious to see what will happen on a highway trip and after I learn to keep my foot out of the gas. It is still so fun to step on it.
