If you read the story on Brian's site, it says that the trucks were bought locally near Ft Campbell,KY. They installed winches and Infra-red headlights. The diesel, readily avail over there, was considered too noisy.
One of the guys shown in the top pic was KIA in '03 iirc, and the red-haired guy shown in the lower pic is "Oklahoma Chris".
