I had a gm 3.4L that did this as well , it was the head gasket...I am afraid that is my current problem as well, I am keeping an eye on it but the symptoms are not good so far. My overflow is full, it could also be a bad or stuck thermostat. Good luck. BTW mine is an 88 2.6 with 191K on it.
