Another new Jeep owner; need advise #770513 12/08/06 06:02 PM

Hello all,

I just purchased a 2004 Jeep Rubicon and IÆm looking to install 33ö tires (left over from my previous ride).

The searching I have done shows that you need a 4ö lift to accommodate the 33ö tires.

Have you had any experience with any of the following brands?
Super Lift
Rubicon Express
Rough Country
Rancho (expensive)
ProComp

IÆm actually looking at the rough country basic 4" lift (runs about 600.00). What I notice is that the basic lifts replace only the lower control arms but the more expensive ones (about 899.00), replace both upper and lower control arms.

Would it be wise to go with the 899.00 lift and skip the basic lift?

Any help you can provide in selecting a lift would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Where in TX? Yes buy the expensive one! You will enjoy a lot better lift. All I have heard about the rough country lift is just that! ROUGH!

I live in the Pflugerville (Austin) area.

So go with the lift with both upper and lower controls arms for each side. Ok.

Thanks for the informationà Will post some pictures once its liftedà

Nice! What lift kit is that, and how is the handling on the street? I noticed today (I'm a new owner as well) that the Jeep handles quite well on the road considering what it is. Obviously, lift kits are for bigger tires and off-road performance, but I'll be driving mine on the road a lot too. Thanks!

I ended getting the Rough Country lift.

After looking at all the lift kits, I went with price (I know, you get what you paid for). RC was the only one that offered the 4ö lift with both top and lower controlling arms for a reasonable price.

The kit also includes disconnects for both front and back.

It includes a lot for the price of the kit. Plus I got free shipping and 3 months deferred payments from JCWhitney.com.

I installed the lift myself, very easy to install. The only problem I had was with my front track bar. I think there was some play in it and after the lift kit it got much worse. After taking it to get aligned, the tech told me there was something wrong because it was wandering too much. I upgraded the front track bar with a ProComp adjustable one. I removed the relocation bracket that came with the kit and installed the ProComp track bar and the problem was corrected. I took it back to complete the alignment and everything was fine.

After correcting the tracking bar issue the jeep rides nice and strait. ItÆs very easy to control now. The ride quality is good, a little stiff but not too much. When money becomes available, I want to get some Rancho adjustable shocks to soften the ride a bit.

After the lift I installed my 33ö tires. I also ordered some longer brake lines to be able to remove the quick disconnects to get more articulation.

Yesterday I picked up my front and rear metal bumpers. All I need to do I apply some coating and install them.
