Since my clutch has been acting up, im almost sure it's time for a new one. Barely have to set my foot on the clutch and the whole system disengages. Yeehaw.
I was looking at OEM clutch kits, And see it contains:
1 Throwout bearing, 1 Clutch Disc, 1 Pressure Plate, 1 Pilot bearing, and an Alignment tool. I plan to also flush the hydraulic clutch fluid while im doing this. Is there any other parts anyone can recommend I pickup and install so all clutch related parts would be new? I think I remember reading about a slave and master cylinder?
Also, found this 89 Toy P/U Clutch Kit for what im thinking is a good price?

if it is not slipping, I would just adjust it.
there is an adjustment rod on the clutch peddle.

and no, on the cheap clutch. I put one of those in and it slipped from the time it was new. I got stuck in some missouri mud and it would slip in low range even.

With the amount of labor involved I would and did just buy a premium clutch kit. Dropping the tranny is a pain in the a**, and knowing you have some solid gear down there would be worth it. 2 cents

here
I bought one of these kits and it is a good replacement and for the money, ya can't go wrong. Is as good as OEM.
Quality is OEM.
This clutch is used behind a 22RE with a LCE 270* cam and headers turning 31"BFGs'
Doesn't slip at any rpm. I use this and am really happy so far. No chatter or vibes.

MARLIN MARLIN MARLIN

Go to Marlin, get their heavy duty clutch kit, it's got something like 1600 ft/lbs of pressure vs. the stock 900 ft/lbs, pedal feel is about the same and the thing grabs like no other! I just installed one of these in my rig

Don't go cheap on a clutch.. I say this because I went cheap once and was pulling the tranny again 2 months later.

Oh yea.. I've got a Hays Brute FS - it's over in the FS section. I've got a 22RTE flywheel and I'm a dumbass...

Marlin makes great stuff.
I've had success with Centerforce (stage 1 only).
My new clutch is ACT, based on Jeff M's recommendations. It's expensive though.

I wouldn't recommend ceramic or dual friction.

also if the flywheel is in good shape get it machined. if not you will reduce the effectiveness and life on the clutch by quite a bit.

cheak for any major stress fractures and warpage. For the fractures it is the depth that matters, alot of the time they can be machined out, along with a slight warp. usually they can be machined .020 - .030 maximum, i belive, but i could be wrong its been a while since i have machined a flywheel

Since the tranny/transfercase is a sealed unit i would recommend putting new fluid in it while it is on the ground, you can get a plastic hand pump for the gear fluid bottles makes life a ton easier. when you do it on the ground make sure the tranny is sitting level both side to side and up and down.
Use a tranny jack or at least two jacks with a wider lift plate and tie down straps, two people also help tons for efficiency and safety cause those suckers are heavy.

Ahh good point, I should check out the Marlin stuff and see what they have. Yea, I definitley would only want to do this once (gonna be my first time doing this.) My uncles got a lift in his garage and a tranny cradle soo im hoping That will help immensely in this project.
I asked my mechanic about adjusting the clutch, he claims there is no real adjustment for it, only the pedal thing you had mentioned. But, when I first got the truck the prev owner (the one that failed to refill the tranny with tranny fluid...) also did the clutch. And the idle was messed up (idled at 2,400rpm) Soo im not sure how long he ran it like that, but im sure it didn't like being slammed into every single gear .
Looking on Marlins right now, and I def will get the 1600lbs one just cause lol, I only play in mud really.
So for this whole job, Pressure plate,Clutch Disk, Throwout Bearing, Pilot bearing, Master and Slave cylinder, resurface flywheel, new hydraulic fluid and new fluid in transfercase/tranny, adjust clutch pedal. That's pretty much Everything I can do in the clutch area that Could need replacement right?

Found this on sale at my local HarborFreight for $89.95 and was able to R & R the tranny/tcase/crossmember together by myself.
