Driving back home from school (anxious to start my dual case conversion) my truck began to sing an odd high pitched whine from the transmission. So i pulled the plug and found shavings in the oil <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />. The thing that gets me is that when i took off the shifter, there was a little mound of dirt right on/around the shift forks! Still have no idea how it got there, but regardless i need to do something about the transmission.

Has anyone rebuilt their transmission before, and if so how difficult a task would this be? I'm considering getting Marlin's kit so i can just upgrade it with the stronger bearings--turn it into a G54--. I've previously done a 4.7 gearkit to my t-case so the project doesn't seem too overwhelming, but i havn't found a guide on how to rebuild the tranny (or at least not yet)
Does anyone know of one?

personally i would just find a good w56 to drop in. much less work, and probably cheaper.

Aisin transmissions tend to be variations on a theme; though the article is for an R151 (or R150, practically identical internally), the basic knowledge and procedure is the same across Toy trannies. Be certain to USE THE FSM AS THE ARTICLE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR THE FACTORY MANUAL, and was never intended to be.

well, it seems after further education on the toyota trannys that it wouldn't even be worth it to rebuild my G52 because it has a weak design--small bearings and all. So.... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> i upgraded
