Just picked up a 92 extended cab 4x4, that is in need of a new engine. PO tried to do an in truck main bearing job, got everything tore down and gave up. Thats where I came in and bought it for a winter project. I have a 3.0 from a 94 4-runner that I will be pulling this afternoon , bring it back to my garage place on a stand and then start the removel of my dead 3.0 for the swap. The doner is from an auto trans and my "new" one is a 5 speed. I have never removed/installed a 3.0 only 22re's of which I have done a few engine transplants. Anything I should pay particular attention to? or any hints/suggestions/reccomendations for the 3.0 work would be appreciated.

This site will help but in swapping the 94 into the 92, since one is an automatic and the other a 5 speed plus there were a few other changes in the emissions and ECM, I would use the fuel injection set up from the 92 plus all sensors. The rest is basiclly the same. Mke sure that the crank on the 94 is drilled for a pilot bearing and that a new one is installed before setting it into the truck! http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiB...900823d/80/16/0b/f9/0900823d80160bf9.jsp

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any idea what the changes to the ecu and emissions are. I would really like to keep as much of the newer engine as possible,it actually turned out to be a 95 and it has a 40K less miles than my original. I will check to see if the fuel injecters are the same resistance. I pulled the entire engine including the wiring harness all the way back to the ecu. I was going to lay them both out in the garage and see what I will replace or resuse

Wow, you shoulda come over and watched me yank my 3.0 and auto out! There isn't anything really out of the ordinary that you haven't seen before. The overall length of the V6 w/ auto is really tricky to get headed up, over, and down the right angle - but the manual should make it a little easier. Are you going w/ headers or stock manifolds and crossover? The crossover should be bolted up in place because it's really tough to get to when it's right up against the firewall.

You get that 350 in there yet Wyatt?
I might buy a 78 chevy for $500 and yank the drivetrain for the 4Runner!

Don't want to hijack Brent's thread, but it's his adapters so I guess it's OK. Get the Treefitty and donate your motor to Brent! I've had it in to check clearances and stuff - but it's not ready yet. The tranny is out to have the adapter shaft installed. Maybe sometime in January. Oh...it's a 400 SBC. ![[Linked Image]](http://wburke.home.insightbb.com/forums/100_6257.JPG)

Looks like your getting really close on the swap. Once you actually place it in the truck its going to be hard to be patient... is the electrical side going okay? and back to my stuff.. Did you pull your 3.0 with the transmission attached? I've been mulling this over to avoid the bellhousing bolts. I got them out of the doner but as always it was a PITA. I think I may go with headers since the engine is going to be out of the truck. Did you have headers on your 3.0?

I'm not into the electrical yet. I've been trying to get the accessories and belt alignment right.
I pulled the engine w/ the auto and xfer attached (it's really a long combination) so it made it tough to snatch it out while trying to clear the front radiator support. Are you converting to manual, or staying w/ the auto? I had the stock exhaust, so I sawzalled most of it out. Headers will make everything much easier.

The truck I just bought is a 5 speed and the engine I just plucked out is an auto, so i am staying with the manual. I harvested my "new" engine from the auto and those bellhousing bolts were a gem to get out, so i think i will pull my engine and 5speed as one assembly and bolt the new engine to my 5speed, new clutch of course, out of the truck and reinstall as one unit. after swapping over the wiring harness and intake assembly while its all laid out in the garage.

OK...so you don't have to deal w/ the tranny cooler lines and crap either. It should be a straight flywheel swap then, and if you're putting your intake on the new motor, it should be plug and play.
