Well most of the ATV winches I have seen are around 35-50ft of cable. So you have around 15-25 feet of pulling length with a snatch block. That is the whole length of the trooper which should be enough to get you out of most situations. I also carry a 25ft tow strap so I should be able to reach something to grab onto.
I have used a hi-lift jack to winch out once at 4 ft at a time and that is why I want a electric winch even if its 20ft and slow. But as I look more and more I am finding better deals so I may yet get a 5000-6000lb winch.
