I just made a quick run to Montana over the weekend and it reminded me of this question. Cruise set at 75 or so, come up to a town with a 45mph limit, hit cancel (I don't like taping the brakes and have an auto), cruise through town, hit resume on the far side and cruise picks up again. No issues. BUT, change my town speed to 30, and cruise loses its program. I even sped slightly through one smaller town and it does it if I go no lower than 35 too.

I know this has been going on in my truck for awhile, but I don't think it's Always been like this. Anyone else have something similar... just wondering if I should expect something to break soon.

The only way to "resume", is to have tapped your brakes beforhand. Once you hit cancel, it is canceled. Maybe you hit something without realizing it? There maybe a speed issue going on in there somewere. Not so sure about the low speed canceling anything though.

Mine does it for 25 or so and below iirc, my camry did the same thing.

The roomie's 97 Corrolla lets go at 25 mph; I'm still playing with my 99 4R (2.7L); still engaged at 35 mph; haven't gone much lower with it on.

IIRC, it's based on the vacuum.

Somewhere in my '96 owners manual it clearly states that 35 mph is in fact the minimum speed for cruise engagement.

Well, I know for a fact that "Resume" works after you hit cancel... I don't use the brakes (old habit), and cancel the cruise Well before a speed reduction and just coast down. But I Also use cancel when I come up on someone too fast, pass them as the opportunity presents, and then resume on the far side. It works just fine in that way.

Thanks for the info on the speed cutoff.... just odd as my other vehicle always holds the cruise.

Yep, in the owners manual it mentions something about not being able to "resume" after dropping below a certain speed...

Cruise controls don't work or resume after you drop below a certain speed. That's a safety feature, if you're below 30 mph or so you are probably in stop-and-go traffic, a residential area, etc., and should be paying attention.
