The new fan and controller work great.
Oddly though a few days ago on the way home from work at 70 mph my check-engine-light came on, did not give it much thought, and then a couple of seconds later my air-bag lamp came on and then started flashing. I began to get concerened at that point and exited the turnpike and had to stop at a stop light, so I decided to shut down the engine and re-start it to reset everything, BIG MISTAKE, well the engine would not turn over.
A Highway Patrol car was behind me and gave me a push around the corner to get off the road and fortunately it was down hill and I was able to get the car started and limped the 1.5 miles to my home at about 5 mph sputtering all the way.
The alternator had died and looking bach had probably been intermittent for several weeks. Went to OReily's and picked up a reman unit for $122.00 and the problem was solved.
My new fan worked through all that and the car did not over-heat.
I will say the the Sporty got me home and did not leave me stranded, and considering that the battery voltage was only 6.5 vdc when I got home it is amazing that the sportage would run at all.

I used a Cooper C7220 which is a pocket thermometer used by A/C folks, it has a 5" stainless steel probe and reads form 0 to 220 deg F. I just stuck the probe in the radiator tank, dissconnected the power to the fan, set the low set point at 160 F and the high set at 200 F. The fan will run at 50% all the time with a warm engine unless the temp goes above 200%. Of corse the fan runs at 100% any time the A/C is on. I did connect the A/C input to the Spal to the + fan connection which is on as long as the A/C is on. Can you set the SPAL to run @ 185 w/50% and 200 @ 100%. I see no reason for it to kick on below 185f. Thanks, Everet

You can set both the low (50%) and the high (100%) independently. So the answer is yes. The reason for setting the low at 160 deg is to establish air-flow through the radiator before the thermostat opens.

bought the fan and spal combo,I have a couple of questions... 1)do you want the fan to push or pull...Pull air from outside passed ac the radiator? 2) I dont have a temp reader..At what level on the standard oem temp gauge is 160 and 200? With clutch fan my temps dont raise past half,Actually little below half. 3) The temp sensor?Do you reroute wire or slice it?totally disconect or must the wire stay intact ?
4) did you remove radiator for this mod?

In answering the first question, always pull the air from the front of the radiator and A/C condenser, that way you get cool air from outside the vehicle, not hot engine bay air, and also if you tried blowing it out through the front you'd be fighting the air trying to get in whilst the car travels along.

OK now let me also jump onto the bandwagon. Just below the thermostat housing there are two connectors. The left side one has got two wires and the right has one. I think the left one is the temp sensor, but what is the one on the right? Can one use one of these to connect to the fan to come on when it is necessary? The fan does not have to grind along all the time even at half speed?
