Need a Spot
The brake rotor on the front right hand side of my 2001 kia sportage will not come off. I think i've done everything I needed to do, but i would suppose it would have come off by now. I sat outside last night for maybe an hour with a rubber mallet trying to see if it just needed to be knocked loose; no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Eddie.

Need more intell,I just had mine off tonight and regreased my bearings. They stick alittle to the spindle but with a mallet and a small bar it should slide off, that is if a 99 is the same as a 01,and you took out the two scerws holding the locking ring on

Body Damage is Cool
On the 4WD versions you don't have to take the 2 locking screws off. All you have to do is take the tire off, remove the caliper and the caliper mounting bracket. Then use a rubber mallet and hit the rotor from the back side at 12:00, 6:00, then 3:00 and 9:00. Do this a number of times increasing the amount of force on each full rotation.

The rotors can get rusted on and can some times require a lot of force and some penetrating lubricant like PB Blaster. (Make sure to take them to a shop to be ômeasured for thicknessö and "turned". Then thoroughly clean them with break cleaner when you install them)

I've found it useful to have something exactly opposite where the rubber mallet is hitting to keep the steering from moving.

Don't get mad and hit the rotor hard enough to warp it though.

Not true, unless someone didn't install the screws the last time the brakes were serviced. And at minimum you need a #3 phillips head to get them out. A #2 isn't large enough.

I broke a #3 head when I got one of the screws off actually. So, those DO go back on right? I do hope that damn thing comes off soon though. I need groceries

BY taking the hole hub off it will make it easier to deal with the 3 screws holding the rotor on if they won't come off.If theres nothing holding the bearings on that are in the hub to the spindle other then the break then yes it will come off,and mostlikely when your going to the store Good luck doin 60mph

It looks as if you are ready to remobe the rotor. You may want to install the screws or a couble of bolts in the two theaded holes in the rotor and use those to help press off the rotor.
