I can buy that. Just wasn't what I ran into when mine went out. Maybe I just didn't let them get so bad before I had them replaced. The explanation I got on the load and unload forces of the ring and pinion and those bearings at the time lined out more of a straightforward all the time growl out of the axle bearings and a side-side growl out of the carrier bearings.
In any event, you gotta dig your way in from the outside. I didn't mean he should ignore the outers on the way in for sure. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

The other thing that usually happens when a wheel bearing wears out is you get an oil leak into the brake drum. I'd think you would have noticed that though...?

I am anxious to hear the result of this thread since my truck has that infamous growl also--it has 100,000 miles on it.
Thanks, Brad

But that's usually once the seal has been cooked... Could be still intact (for now).

Did you ever get your growling problem repaired? Thanks, Brad
Mine was the rear wheel bearing with a leak from the seal.
