Need a Spot
I just replaced the vaccum lines on the front wheels that I have NO clue what they do. I kinda just replaced them because they were starting to fall apart and, were basically not working at all anyways. Since I replaced the lines The driver side wheel makes some frightening noises. It really scared the ***** out of me but when my wife suggested i disconnect the hose, the awful sound stopped. I need some help as soon as possible.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
were you using 4wd when it made the noise? those lines are for your vacuum-lock hubs.

Indeed --see recent thread on same subject - disconnecting the hose makes sure no partial vacuum is applied, because the solenoid valve www.geocities.com/lmp4203/kiasport/vacsol.jpg
leaks and leaves the hub in attempt to engage, but is not able to do so.
NOtice that the condition of the hub after that is quetionnable. SO , first of all, if you reinstall the vacuum hoses, take the solenoid valve out, clean, make it operate with a 12v supply (battery charger) several dozen times, circulate some solvent through the ports to clean dust particles from the valve seat..then try again to connect it and see if all works well..that is positive engagement when on 4wd, and complete disengage and no grinding noise when on 2wd.
I doubt in fact the vacuum hubs have survived...as they are the most common source of problems and eventually need replacement with WARN manual or automechanical.
Come back to tell the results.
(instructions here for replacement with automechanical)

By the way, for the benifit or readers, it is best to keep this topic on this thread.

Glue a small bolt in the hole in the back of the hub to prevent the entry of water.

You already know what to do with the vacuum operated hubs <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />

Luckily....my garbage (circa 2001) still works. Well, after periodic inspections...just to make sure....

I pretty much only use the 4x4 in the snow....helped in Denver over Christmas....your mileage may vary....or stop working all together... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Here's the thing... the times when you need them most will be the conditions under which they fail. Murphy's Law you say? Probably, but I'm referring to the fact that, in cold weather, the seals are more likely to get hard and crack, and therefore... LEAK.

I found out the hard way. 130 Dollars and like, 7 minutes of labor, is all you need to replace them.

Just go with the manuals....then you know it's working.
And I bet that relay to the vacume switch would switch on offroad lights nicley when you click the 4x4 on! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />
