I picked up an 87 Turbo Runner this summer myself. It had a light knock on start up as well, about 2000 miles later it spun a bearing and is now being rebuilt as is the turbo. The tranny is nice and stout and has the heavier 23 spline output and a lock up torque converter. Mine still shifts very strong at 160,00 miles. I'm going to put in a 268 cam to help with turbo lag, but otherwise the engine will remain stock. These are fun trucks and I can't wait to get mine back.
