Well i got one of my buddies to help me yesterday and we have done some clutches in honda civics and we would just lay under it and bench press it out of the car so we figured we would try that. So with it still on jacks, we both got up under it and we could lift it and move it around and we got it to rotate 90 degrees like it needs to be for my tranny and we got it to move back as far as it would go. The input shaft is still hung inside the pressure plate fingers and the bellhousing is hitting on the pressure plate but we ran out of time so we just left it on jacks for the night. It will not move back any farther than what we have it now. Should I be able to change it where it is or am I going to have the take off the pressure plate and slide it back into the bellhousing some and drop it down and out?

ALLMOST GAURENTEE THE PILOT BEARING IS FROZEN TO THE INPUT SHAFT OF THE TRANS ON THE ENGINE SIDE OF THE CLUTCH DISC , ESP FROM YOUR DESCRIPTION OF IT WANTING TO SPRING BACK AS YOU PULL IT REARWARD, WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO DO IS PULL THE TRANS BACK AS FAR AS YOU CAN AND HOLD IT THERE , NOW REMOVE THE PRESSURE PLATE BOLTS THERE ARE SIX OF THEM , ALL SHOULD HAVE 12 MM HEADS ON THEM , REMOVE THEM ONE AT A TIME AND ROTATE THE ENGINE UNTILL YOU CAN GET THEM ALL OUT , NOW SLIDE THE TRANS BACK AND ROTATE LEFT FRT DOWN AND ROTATE AND DOWN , UNTILL THE BELL HOUSING TOP CLEARS THE BOTTOM OF THE FLYWHEEL , JUST BE EXTREMLY CAREFULL NOW AS YOU ARE REMOVING ANOTHER 30 LBS OR SO, AND THE PRESSURE PLATE AND THE CLUTCH DISC WILL BE FLOPPING AROUND ON THE INPUT SHAFT, SO WATCH YOUR FINGERS ,THERE ARE SOME SHARP EDGES IN THERE , NOW LOWER THE WHOLE MESS DOWN CAREFULLY .ONE MORE NOTE THE 12 MM BOLTS THAT HOLD THE PRESSPLATE TO THE FLYWHEEL, CHECK THEM VERY CAREFULLY FOR BEING STRETCHED , THESE ARE VEYR SOFT BOLTS A GRADE 4 TO BE EXACT, AND SHOULD NOT BE TORQUE TO OVER 18. FT LB,S OR THEY WILL BREAK, JERRY

Well you weren't lieing about the bolts being soft. Got all of them out except the last one and it decided to round off. Stuck the rachet on there and started to tug on it and around it went. I've tried everything to get it out. Socket, box end, rounded bolt remover, and pipe wrench. What should I do now?

Can you get a cutoff wheel or a hacksaw blade in there?
If not, hammer and a chisel should get the head to pop off.
Good Luck, Michael

YEP MICHAEL HAS IT ON THIS ONE WITH THE CUTOFF WHEEL, WITH THE FLYWHEEL BEING A RECESSED STYLE , JUST GET A SMALL AIR GRINDER AND ABOUT A 2 INCH WHEEL ,NOT A GRINDING WHEEL, GET THE LITTLE CUT OFF DISC AND CUT A GROOVE ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE HEAD OF THE BOLT, IF AT ALL POSSIABLE CUT TWO DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS AND THEN USE A CHISEL TO BREAK THE PIECES AWAY , YOU WILL PROB HAVE TO PRY THE PRESSURE PLATE AWAY FROM THE FLYWHEEL AS THE PILOT PINS USUALLY HOLD PRETTY TIGHT SO A COUPLE OF PRY BARS SHOULD DO IT , AND WHATEVER YOU DO, DONT GET UNDER THAT TRUCK WITH OUT SOME GOOD GOGGLES THAT WRAP ALL THE WAY AROUND THE SIDE S OF YOUR FACE WHEN YOU ARE GRINDING.. I got the bolt out finally and I've got my new clutch along with new pressure plate bolts. I put the pp and the disc on the input shaft and jacked it up in there but I cant manage to get the alignment tool in there. If I completely remove the tranny and put the clutch on the pp will stop the tranny from going back in. Could I maybe hold the pp and disc together and slide them against the flywheel and slightly on the plates and then align the disc by sliding it with my fingers? Or what will I have to do?

Getting the Wheeling Fever

I just bought a 91 V6 5-speed and the clutch seems to be okay but in reading this for future reference I have a question. Do you not need to have the flywheel turned while this is apart?

INSTALL THE NEW PILOT BEARING, AND THEN USE THE ALIGNMENT TOOL TO CENTER THE CLUTCH DISC ,BEING CAREFULL TO GET THE CLUTCH DISC IN THE CORRECT DIRECTION . THE RAISED PORTION OF THE DISC GOES TOWARD THE TRANS FLATS CENTER SIDE GOES TOWARD THE ENG, SLIDE THE PP OVER THE PILOT TOOL AND INSTALL THE SIX MOUNTING BOLTS, TORQUE THEM IN A CRISSCROSS PATTERN ,,DO NOT TIGHTEN THEM OVER 18 FT LBS, WITH A NEW THROWOUT BEARING ASSY INSTALLED ON THE THROWOUT FORK , NOW THE FUN BEGINS, TO INSTALL THE TRANS START WITH THE TAIL UP AND OVER THE CROSSMEMBER , ACTUALLY TO MAKE THIS EASIER TO BALANCE REMOVE THE FRT DRIVE ASSY FROM THE TRANS FER CASE , BEING CAREFULL NOT TO LOOSE THE SPRING AND BALL BEARING THAT IS HELD IN PLACE BY THE EDGE OF THE FRT DRIVE ASSY ITSELF , IT MAKES IT A LOT LIGHTER ALLSO, NOW AS YOU MOVE THE TRANS UP AND BACK A LITTLE AT A TIME TAIL FIRST, THE FRT WILL BARELY CLEAR THE PP BUT IT WILL CLEAR ,ONCE IT IS UP AND CLOSE TO LEVEL START TO SLIDE IT INTO THE CLUTCH DISC , YOU MAY HAVE TO ROTATE IT BACK AND FORTH A LITTLE BIT UNTILL THE INPUT SHAFT DROPS IN, THEN JUST PUSH THE TRANS STRAIGHT AGAINST THE BACK OF THE ENG , JUST DONT LET THE TRANS HANG DOWN WHILE HANGING IN THE CLUTCH DISC, OR YOU CAN BEND THE CLUTCH DISC CENTER DRIVE AND IT WILL CHATTER LIKE CRAZY , NOW BOLT EVERYTHING BACK UP , CENTER THE SHIFT ARMS IN THE TRANS AND INSTALL THE SHIFT LEVER AND THEN INSTALL THE FRT DRIVE ASSY, WATCH FOR THE POSITION OF THE FRT DRIVE SHIFT FORKS , AND MOST IMPORTANT DONT FORGET THE SPRING THAT GOES ON TOP OF THE SHIFTER ASSY FOR THE 4WD LEVER ,IT HOOKS OVER TO THE SHIFT TOWER AND GOES AROUND THE 4WD LEVER OR IT WILL NOT STAY IN 4WD. GOOD LUCK WITH IT JERRY

Well I tried for 4 hours in the past two days and I cant get the tranny to slide all the way forward. I took the rubber piece out of the side off the tranny where the throwout assy goes and the input shaft is in the disc just a little but the splines are in it. Once it gets that far it wont go any farther. I've whiggled and rotated it side to side but it wont go. Should I spray some wd-40 or something on it to lube the input shaft or what should I do?

Getting everything to line up just right is difficult for one person. Get a buddy and you can bet you will have to get the rear of the tranny higher than you would think.
Even though it seems like good idea, please don't start a bolt and try to pull everyhting together like that. You stand a good chance of breaking the bellhousing.
Just get it where you think it needs to go and start wiggling and shaking. The tranny not you. It will seat. It will just take some paitence. You did use the alignment tool when installing the clutch and pressure plate?
This is where misalignment will haunt you.
