15W-40 affair is pretty strange. How How oil with hight viscosivy can affect the consumption ? I do not think so. As for evaporation, a good synthetic 5W-30 has meager evaporation and stability, better than most cheap 15W-40s. Also, dense oil is more difficult for the oil rings.
