 Crankshaft bolt nightmare

OK,
How do you get that stupid bolt off that holds on the timing chain. I have 2 brusied elbows and 3 cut up knuckles. And all the stupid thing does is turn the chain. I am pulling towards the EFI. What is the deal with this stupid stupid bolt.

You have to do something to keep the crank from being able to rotate. Put the tranny in 5th and set the parking brake. If you have an auto tranny, maybe stick something through the spokes of the bigger timing gear to keep it from rotating.
1989 reg cab pickup, 22re, 31s, 4.56s, rear ARB, rear OME springs, RS9000s, otherwise stock.

http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/maintenance/timingchain/this should help.Just remember to remove the coil wire. ( from coil to distributor)

get a impact or your best 6 point socket. pull it in the direction of loosen. and smack the end of the handle not your fingers. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> use a ball peen hammer. I should say hard well placed blows rather then the eyes closed death slam.
remember mr smashy is your friend.
or wait.. edit
are you taking about the bolt infront of the cam shaft or the crank bolt?
my directions are for the cam bolt.

or pull the coil wire off, slap a breaker bar on it and wedge it up against the frame, bump the starter and violla.... instant bolt loosened... try it, just be careful it only takes a slight bump.

IIRC, there is a spot on the camshaft where you can use a wrench to to hold it in place, or let the wrench set against the head.
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.

If it's the bolt that holds the camshaft gear on, be careful as the gear's somewhat fragile. DO NOT be tempted to jam somethin' thru one of it's holes to keep it from turning while trying to loosen that bolt. Trust dumbass (me) on this one! You'll be either very lucky, or buyin' a new timming set.

Muddy.., And as far as the crankshaft bolt; yeah it's tough. I use a 6 point 19mm and a 24" breakerbar with tranny engaged & brake set. Counterclockwise now <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />.

turn past TDC, remove #1 spark plug, fill cylinder with nylon rope, remove crank bolt. Easy cheesy.
