Have the starter motor take it off for you.

or pull the coil wire off, slap a breaker bar on it and wedge it up against the frame, bump the starter and violla.... instant bolt loosened... try it, just be careful it only takes a slight bump. works for me too!

I don't see how this could happen. The nylon rope will give a little, but eventually provide enough stopping power to allow a person to get a stuck crank bolt off. I've been through these where nothing else has worked... and I mean NOTHING else.
Brian K. Gallus I have nothing important to say.

I would not do it. bend a rod, break the piston. you would have to get the rope in pretty even. side ways pressure and rod will bend or skirt will break. I would rather try oil on the compression stroke over rope.

the starter technique works for me.The rope thing sounds like a lot of trouble and it seems like a lot could go wrong

Starter is the easiest, rope works great, did it on my motor that I just replaced stupid me forgot to take off the bolt before taking the motor out I've seen a few other people use the rope trick and my neighbor across the street who builds hot rod Chevy's as a hobby swears by it. The oil idea sounds interesting.....

Another vote for the starter technique, works like a champ. Be sure to place the breaker bar on top of the driver-side frame, not passenger
