My old pickup has the bare bones speedo with no trip meter, has anyone done a swap like this for something nicer from say the SR5 with the tach ? I'm assuming the whole guage panel is a one piece unit, but I'm wondering does it matter if it comes from an auto or standard trans vehicle, mine is an auto, would the cable ends be the same ?

You might want to double check the fitment into the dash more than anything at this point. Yeah, the unit is one whole piece. If you pick up a donor cluster, see about taking the cable with; easier to change the cog on the tranny side, I'm thinkin'.

Unusual swap, but interesting nonetheless.

the speedometer cluster bolts in between 1979 and 1983, but the wire plugs changed a couple times so you'll have to do some splicing(get the plugs from the cluster that you're going to put in!). '79 used round plugs and i think '83 used square ones.

Yeah, the plugs are different between the years but the clusters are physically interchangeable. Grab the cable too, it may be a different length between auto and manual trannys (but probably not).
