The province can ask for an inspection - and does. But insurance companies were also asking for "in-house" inspections on older vehicles, or some were asking on ANY vehicle before they would insure it. Now, they still frequently ask, but you can say "No." and they still have to insure you. This has nothing to do with the OOP inspections, which are still mandatory for OOP vehicles.

I had 14 days. You have to have insurance to get it to the inspection facility, no? Thus I guess that is why there is a grace period. But to my understanding, you have to pass an OOP before you are fully insured, after your 14 day thing...
Either way, I hope the 25 year thing waits a bit yet. If the door closes, our aftermarket parts possibilities will end too...

[color:"red"] [/color] I hope if this does go through that the Goverment will buy a new fleet of Postal and Garbage trucks as we know they are RHD and if ours are not safe then neither are theirs.

im pretty sure out of province they can say no until you get it done...or you may get the 14 days grace just like a normal safety inspection. im not entirely sure In Alberta it's the Province that requires an out-ofprovince inspection before you can register it. The insurance company does not need one but the Province does. You can get insurance but you can't get a license plate. ;-)

They can get a huge fine and be shut down for doing that. Plus a proper mechanical inspection checks things that a back yard mechanic cannot. It's always a good idea to have an inspection done by a licensed establishment anyways.

Not trying to cause a pissing match, but I know a few backyard mechanics that make a lot of pros look hamfisted. But not to worry, I do agree its always better to have the "pros" look at it, especially if they are truly honest and objective. There is nothing on the safety checklist in the province of Ontario that can't be corrected by a backyard or shade tree mechanic. I just need a licensed tech to sign off. The big 5 a mechanic will check are the things that would make sense to have in working order 1. windshield/ windscreen (if its broke the driver is affected) 2. cabin integrity (don't want any exhaust leaking in there) 3. lights (can't drive safely without lights at night) 4. brakes (gotta be able to stop) 5. engine (no leaks/runs well/exhaust is good)
As for the safe lane changing, I have an idea I am putting to paper, that should cure the idiocy running rampant in government circles.
