Not trying to cause a pissing match, but I know a few backyard mechanics that make a lot of pros look hamfisted. But not to worry, I do agree its always better to have the "pros" look at it, especially if they are truly honest and objective. There is nothing on the safety checklist in the province of Ontario that can't be corrected by a backyard or shade tree mechanic. I just need a licensed tech to sign off. The big 5 a mechanic will check are the things that would make sense to have in working order
1. windshield/ windscreen (if its broke the driver is affected)
2. cabin integrity (don't want any exhaust leaking in there)
3. lights (can't drive safely without lights at night)
4. brakes (gotta be able to stop)
5. engine (no leaks/runs well/exhaust is good)

As for the safe lane changing, I have an idea I am putting to paper, that should cure the idiocy running rampant in government circles.
