Okay About 1.5 months ago I got new wheels and tires(Tundra steel wheels the swirl 5 spokes and Tires P275/70 16" Pirelli Scorpion ATRs)I picked up a vibration around 40-45 then it disappears. I am going to have the wheels balanced checked in a couple days but the vibration is odd it almost seems to come and go I'll update after I get the balance checked.

Guranteed the wheels or tires arent true (round). No tire/wheel is perfectly round but are round enough so you dont notice, some yotas have this problem and it either turns out to be out of round wheels/tires, a balancing issue or frontend is loose.

I ran Scorpions for my last set and my neighbor has some now on his Excursion. We both had similar symptoms with these tires where if they were parked for a day or 2 it took a while for the tire to warm up and work out the flat spot. Then they were fine. Not exactly what you are talking about but an FYI for you. Still really liked the tires.

Had the same thing happen to me, the 40MPH vibration. I had thrown a wheel weight somewhere. Probably the same thing happening to you, especially if you just had new tires & wheels mounted recently. The wheel weights may not have been "properly installed", ie hammered down securely.

No big deal. If you're getting them checked this week it should be easy for them to figure out.

Take a look at your weights as they are now. If there are 2 or more next each other it could be that you have a "hot spot". By that I mean a heavy tire spot piled on top of a heavy wheel spot. If this is true you will see several weights clustered together, often on one side of the rim, not both inside and out. The guy doing the balance was too lazy or untrained to bust down the tire, rotate it and then rebalance it so that the heavy spot on the tire was opposite the heavy spot on the wheel. In the old bubble balance days this was a normal fix.Today's "computer" balances are fast and easy, with little regard to such issues. They just pile on the weights to get the "computer" to say all is ok.

My Taco has a similar problem -- 265/70 - 16 BFG AT KOs.

This set of tires has been balanced at least a dozen times on five different balance machines (including match mounting on two different GSP 9700s), and always come up zero after the tech adds the required weights. The rims and tires run absolutely true, and are smooth as silk up to 60 mph. From 61-62 up to about 72 mph, they will shake the fillings out of your teeth. At 74 mph, they smooth out again.

I've come to two conclusions:

1) my BFGs suffer from excessive radial force variation (sidewall stiffness is way different from one side of the tire to the other -- as much as 39lbs on one of them), and

2) My Taco's suspension is sensitive to the vibration harmonic in the above speed range, and amplifies the shake instead of dampening it.

Good luck, as I believe the only fix for my problem will be a new set of tires (BFG won't do anything about my current set <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" />).

There was a similar problem with a 4runner on another forum, turned out he needed to replace the entire frontend b/c it was no good anymore-problem went away..

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I haven't driven the truck very much lately as I have been driving my fiancees Vibe around. When I drove it the last time it was warmer(40's) and the vibration wasn't present. Though I think that there is a wheel(or 2) with the weights stacked up I'l check it when I get home. I also check psi that day and it was higher I think that I will try keeping the pressure up(35) and see if that helps things. I'll make it a priority to get the tires balanced checked because I have a wedding to go to thats a long way away.
