I just got the aforementioned axle from a buddy for a hundred bucks so its going into my 89 k5 and will run 40" tires. my question is will the 9.5" 14 bolt hold up to 40's. Im gettin ready to buy 4.88's and a locker but if its a garbage axle maybe not. thanx in advance.

14 bolt should be fine for 40" tires.

I'd try to find some heat treated axles for it and an ARB. If you're going to put a lot of motor in front of it keep an extra R/P set or 2 on hand. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />
