The crankcase AND rocker area in a running engine has constant pressure waves flying around in there, caused by the bottom of the pistons. You can put the palm of your hand over the open fill hole and feel the pulse. Never put oil in a running engine if you can help it unless you just want to add rust protection to all the underhood metal...
