Your tranny doesn't have a "filter" per say. It has a metal screen that you can clean out and reinstall. Some manuals will tell you it has a filter, but it does not.

With that said, I would just do a drain and fill. Remove the drain plug, put a container under it to measure how much you took out, and put back in what you took out. Will be probably 3-4 quarts at the most. You can do this a few times over a period of time and call it good.

Not 100 sure on what ATF to use. What does the dipstick say? Thats what I'd use.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Just FYI - Jiffy Lube has a "T-Tech" machine that hooks up to the tranny coolant lines and does a "total" ATF fluid exchange of old to new. "Total" in quotes b/c I've read where even this does not clear the old fluid 100%, but I think this gets as close as possible. Cost including fluid is $99. I bought Amsoil synthetic ATF on my own, and Jiffy Lube used my fluid, and gave me a break on the cost of the exchange. I agree that dropping the pan probably isn't necessary unless you've got a problem, and well, if you've got a tranny problem, my sympathies to you.

Jiffy Lube.....STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM JIFFY LUBE AS POSSIBLE.

There are other places to get a trans flush, just don't let the idiots at Jiffy Lube do it.

Do a search on any forum for Jiffy Lube and you'll see.

It worked out OK for me - they did the exchange a couple years ago. Watched them pretty close b/c I was worried they'd mess it up.

I had a hard time finding anyone else to do this. Called a bunch of tranny shops. Jiffy Lube is the only one that could / would do it. Do you know of any others?

There are a few around me, not sure about you. Valvoline, Firestone, Toyota dealer, Meineke, Cottman, Pepboys, and others.

That thread did the trick.
I purchased a case of Valvoline ATF and drained 4 out of the pan. Refill with 4 qts
I dropped the front skidplate and pulled the hose from the passenger side of the radiator. Run truck........
4 qts out........4 new in.
4 qts out until it ran cherry red clear ..........4 new in.
I let out an extra 1/2 quart for a total of 12.5 and about 40 bucks. Very easy.....wish I would have done it sooner. Thanks again and thanks to the 4x4wire forum.

Thanks for the tip - I will check out the other places you mention. I need to have the flush performed again, for reasons unrelated to the prior service. (My radiator blew and the tranny fluid and coolant got mixed together in the tranny. I had it flushed once, but am going to do it again to make sure all the coolant is out of there).
