And if it still fails there's always the secret sauce.

Ok, after having a look at the downpipe, I found that the bold to the far left (when looking from in front of the engine) goes through the part of the manifold it is screwed in to. Is it supposed to be like that? I have a picture, just gotta find somewhere to publish it.. The thread was all worn out, and it pretty much popped out by it self. I'm gonna buy a new gasket, and then, if available, find a sort of screw with a "bent" top, because an ordinary one wouldn't fit next to the manifold. I'm then going to attach it with a bolt. What do you think?

I would seriously make friends with a real parts store, not a warehouse chain. Some (not all) of the workers were french fry specialists last week... Hey! I take offence to that, Before working at Advance Auto Parts I used to detail cars. No french frys on my resume here!

Here is a video of my engine bay. You can see the hole where the manifold meets the downpipe. The exhaust seems to leak, and possibly caused my smog test failure. Is that hole supposed to be there?? The screw didn't screw in either, and was coming out through the hole. It did have thread on it. I'm off to Mitsu to replace the gasket and the screw, hopefully I can pass the smog. Otherwise, how much of the "secret sauce" is reccommended? Half gallon in full tank? Engine bay

Isn't that for a tube to your EGR valve? Do you have or should have an EGR?

NO (sometimes NOx) is the chemical formula for oxides of nitrogen. These are produced only when combustion reaches a certain temperature. What was probably cleaned before were the EGR ports. The basic purpose of the EGR system (exhaust gas recirculation) is to keep combustion temps down by displacing some the the incoming air/fuel charge with the already burned gases. The air/fuel mix is slightly less potent. It doesn't burn as hot and thusly limits NOx emissions. An inoperative EGR system causes NOx and sometimes detonation from the higher temps in the combustion chamber.
We don't smog in my area of FL, but the newer vehicles closely monitor EGR function and in my shop we regularly have to trouble shoot the EGR system when they set codes and turn on the check engine light.
It looks to me like your readouts give you three pieces of info for each exhaust gas measured:
max - max allowable? ave - average vehicle measurement? meas - measurement for your vehicle gp - level for rating of gross polluter
It appears that the NO is the only rating out of range, so I'd focus on the EGR.
Sorry for the long post, I hope it's been helpful.

Ok, So what should I consider regarding the EGR? When the engine is cold, lots of smoke comes from the leaking gasket at the downpipe/manifold, and the car "chokes", idles really bad. When hot, the exhaust stops leaking, and the idle is good. Could a leaking exhaust cause bad idle when cold? Could the leaking exhaust cause the NO level to be high?
