As mentioned the factory manual calls for straight 90, but that's pretty hard to find. The closest common gear oil is 80w-90 and I think most use that. I tend to stick to what the Japanese engineers suggest. If they didn't know what they were talking about, we wouldn't be driving around in Toyota trucks that last 30 years with 300K miles on them. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

i checked yesterday and my manual says either sae 90 or 80w90. ill try and scan it later.


87 22R PU, 2? body lift, 33? BFG muds, 4.88's, F&R Lock-Rights, Rancho Shocks, EB's Street RV Head w/ 268 Cam, LCE Header, 2" to 2 1/4" exhaust, Flowmaster 50 series, Magnaflow high flow cat, complete Herculined SR5 interior, V6 BB, MC, and calipers.

I use a 75w90 in both diffs, trans case and gear box but what I found really made a difference was add a "moly" additive especially to transfer case and gear box. It made shifting smooth.
