For those of you who haven't seen me posting in a long time but remember my old blue 1st gen runner which was stolen about a year or so ago (for the second time) I'm pleased to say I have rejoined the ranks of Toyota 4x4 owners. Seems only fitting since I own a company that makes Toyota 4X4 products. Today I picked up a cherry '94 4runner (132000 miles, 1 owner, all receipts, etc...) for a really good price. I realize this post is worthless without pics and they are coming, just too dark to take 'em right now.
I'm getting used to the automatic and all and have a question. Did this truck ever come with an external tranny cooler?
What's in the "tow package" for one of these? (aside from the hitch and a trailer light pigtail)
I have searched and am not coming up with anything on these questions.
We'll I'm off to read up on ADD and other automatic related stuff.
Better update my sig... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Welcome back Frank!
Yes those vehicles came with AT coolers, the cooler lines run up to the radiator. The towing package *may* include a transer case cooler, it's a small cooler to the passenger side of the t-case. My 94 truck had the towing package w/ these two features.

Congrats on your return to the ranks of the mighty.
AT huh? How's your left leg liking that? It's not too bad, my 94 Explorer Limited is an auto too. I wanted a stick but sheesh they are hard to come by. My girlfriend doesn't mind the auto so much though. I can clearly see what people mean when they claim the stock gearing is too high. This has slighly over sized tires and I wouldn't think of going larger until I regear. I'm most happy that I can finally work on some ideas I have had to increase suspension travel up front. I'm still in grad school so I don't have much time until summer but I'll tinker where I can. At least the lift kit will be cheap! Frank

Towing package had an oil cooler that ran off coolant. It can be found in the FSM.

Nice to have you back!
Now that you're here I have a question for you (maybe someone else has experience with this too.) Regarding the BJ spacers: I read a post somewhere that said there was a sort of "bump steer" because the knuckle and tie-rod on each side cycle through slightly different arcs as the suspension moves. Is this an issue at all for anyone that has them?
Thanks!

Welcome back!
I wonder what gearing you have? YOu didn't mention engine, but if the V-6 and 31" tire option, it should be 4.88s.
I've heard some towing packages can include a step up in gearing. Check your gear code for us. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Thanks! I never noticed this on my '89. I did notice it road better with them but bump steer wasn't an issue at all. (this made me very happy because I was concerned about that) What did cause some hellacious bumpsteer was a worn steering box replaced well prior to the debut of the spacers but technically, that wasn't bumpsteer. That was just the tires gaining momentum and my hand feeling the "collision" when it went from one side of the slop to another. Big tires tend to muscle the steering around quite a bit. If one is experiencing a lot of excessive feedback through the steering wheel I would first check the steering stabilizer, steering gear play, and idler arm wear. Frank

I've heard some towing packages can include a step up in gearing. Check your gear code for us. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> My gear code is g144 and I have the 3.0. If I read that right I have the 8" 4.875:1 w/o limited slip. Hmmmmm The truck has 31X10.5's on it but the plate in the door jam suggests 225/75R15's which should be a 28.5" tire. The speedo reads low compared to my gf's civic. I had 61MPH when she had 65MPH. I'll peak under it tomorrow and see what it has for a tranny cooler. I have a sort of theory that trucks with tranny coolers have longer lasting transmissions at least based on what I have casually observed in Ford Explorers. Frank
