Need a Spot
Ok sorry to bring this subject up again. Please believe me I did do a search but haven't found the exact information I'm looking for. I am looking for the write up/mod which will allow me to lock the rear diff whenever I would like. I have '97 limited.

I did find 'Phong's' write up which he states:
"...To disable the 4LO safety, you have to cut the '4WD' line, which is pin #8 (blue/red) on the ECU, and ground it. The locker will now work in 2HI, 4HI, and 4LO......" 20004runner (Thanks)

Can someone please verify what I may need to do or point me in the right direction to do this for my '97?

Thank you very much.
Rob

bottom of the page. It's pretty self explanatory... Steve said you could use a T-tap connector instead of cutting the wire for a less permanent modification, but I see no reason why you would ever want to re-enable the safety.

Thanks for more pics regarding this. I just wasn't sure if my '97 will be the same way. I'll have to pull the kick panel off and take a look at it.

Nothing extravagant, but here's a detailed write-up for the '97 4Runner:

Body Damage is Cool
I think there is another saftey for only engauging the rear locker at speeds below 5 mph. Its pin #10 on the same connection. I guess some people keep that one intact and ungrounded.

'87 4Runner. '83 Honda XL250R. No mods on either.

HBoss, do you know if your write up applies to a '99? Does anyone know if there are any differences from the '97 concerning the ECU or this mod? Thanks

I'd say Phong is correct. His year 2000 & my year 1997 ECU wires and harness are pretty much identical, so I doubt they changed it only for 1999 models.

After this mod do you get any weird indications with the RRlock light or 4wheel drive lights?? So everything looks normal after this mod! Cool <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
